Bladder and Bowel Care

Bladder and bowel concerns may occur for many reasons, including disability, reduced mobility, neurological conditions, ageing, cognitive impairment, constipation, medication side effects, chronic illness, surgery, or changes in physical function.

Our bladder and bowel management support may assist participants who experience:

Assessment and Care Planning

Every participant has different needs. Rodem Community Care Pty Ltd can complete a clinical review to better understand the participant’s bladder and bowel routine, current continence products, support requirements, risks and goals.

The assessment may include review of:

Following the assessment, we can develop practical recommendations and a bladder and bowel management plan that suits the participant’s daily routine, care environment and level of support.

Personalised Bladder and Bowel Management Plans

A personalised bladder and bowel management plan can help reduce avoidable complications, improve comfort and support consistent care.

Depending on the participant’s needs, the plan may include:

The plan is developed with consideration of the participant’s preferences, dignity, privacy, cultural needs and care environment.

Support for Families, Carers and Support Workers

Education may include:

  • Understanding the participant’s bladder and bowel routine
  • Supporting regular toileting

  • Recognising constipation or bowel changes
  • Recognising signs of urinary tract infection or catheter concerns
  • Skin care and hygiene support
  • Documentation and reporting requirements
  • When to escalate concerns to a nurse, GP or emergency service

This helps the care team provide consistent support and identify concerns early.
